Aptamil and Cow & Gate Infant Milk Recall Widens to Pre-Measured Tabs Over Cereulide Toxin

February 6, 2026
FSA-PRIN-07-2026

The Aptamil and Cow & Gate recall just got bigger again. If you've been half-watching it since January, the Northern Ireland extension now covers more best-before dates, and for the first time it pulls in the pre-measured tabs as well as the tins. The reason hasn't changed: the possible presence of cereulide, a toxin that doesn't break down when you make up a bottle. If you've got any of these in the kitchen, stop using them and check the details below.

What's Affected

  • Product: Aptamil 1 First Infant Milk (800g, 700g, 1.2kg Big Pack, and Hungry 800g)
  • Product: Aptamil 1 First Infant Milk Pre-measured Tabs (best before up to 17 January 2027)
  • Product: Aptamil 2 Follow On Milk (800g, 700g, 1.2kg Big Pack)
  • Product: Aptamil 2 Follow On Milk Pre-measured Tabs (best before up to 17 January 2027)
  • Product: Cow & Gate 1 First Infant Milk (600g, 700g, 800g, 1.2kg Big Pack, and Hungry 800g)
  • Product: Cow & Gate Anti-Reflux 800g
  • Best-before dates: A range of dates from June 2026 into February 2027, varying by product and pack size

The exact best-before windows differ for each size, so the safest move is to check your specific pack against the lists on aptaclub.co.uk or cgbabyclub.co.uk. The dates in this alert differ slightly from the earlier January recalls, which is the whole point of this update, so don't assume a pack was cleared by a previous check.

What You Should Do

  • Don't feed it to your baby. Cereulide is produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus and it's highly heat stable, so it isn't destroyed by cooking or by making up the milk to NHS guidelines. If consumed it can cause a rapid onset of nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps, which is far more serious in a small baby.
  • Return it to the shop where you bought it for a full refund. You don't need a receipt.
  • Already fed some to your baby? Even if your baby seems perfectly well, stop using the product now. If you have any concerns about their health, speak to your GP or call NHS 111. If your baby becomes seriously unwell, do not wait, call 999.
  • Not sure if your tin is affected? Don't take the risk of guessing. Check the batch and date details with the careline or the brand website before the next feed.
  • Contact the brand: Aptamil Careline on 0800 996 1000 or aptaclub.co.uk; Cow & Gate Careline on 0800 977 8880 or cgbabyclub.co.uk.

Why the List Keeps Growing

These recalls have come in waves since early January. Each new alert tends to add either fresh date codes or, as here, a product format that wasn't covered before. That's how contamination investigations usually go. As testing continues, the manufacturer and the authorities keep widening the net. The catch for parents is that a pack you checked a fortnight ago might now fall inside the recall. With newborns relying entirely on this milk, give it a two-minute re-check against the current list rather than trusting an earlier all-clear. Keep an eye on the FSA alerts page for any further extensions.
