Gilbert’s Kosher Foods has recalled Chopped Liver sold in England because it contains wheat (gluten) despite being labelled gluten free. The 15 October FSA notice identifies a risk for people with coeliac disease or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.
| Product | Pack size | Use-by dates (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Gilbert’s Chopped Liver | 250g | 23 October, 28 October, 4 November or 13 November |
| Gilbert’s Chopped Liver | 450g | 23 October, 28 October, 4 November or 13 November |
Both sizes have the same four affected dates. Check the product name, size and date together; the gluten-free wording on a matching pack is the error behind this recall.
If you have coeliac disease or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, do not eat the affected product. Return it to the shop where you bought it for a full refund. For further information, contact Gilbert’s on 01908 646787.
Someone may have chosen this product specifically because its label said gluten free. The recall supplies information that changes that choice: the affected chopped liver contains wheat, regardless of the claim on the pack.
That matters when buying food for another person too. The person who selected the tub may have checked the claim, while the person eating it may never see the packaging. If you bought or served a matching pack for someone avoiding wheat or gluten, pass on the recall link and keep the label details available.
The two sizes share the date list, but each tub still needs its own check. If you bought several, compare every label with the table rather than assuming they all have the same use-by date. Keep any original packaging or photograph if you transferred the contents to another container and need help identifying the purchase.
