Dessert lovers with nut allergies, listen up. Gu has issued a recall on its Blonde Chocolate Cheesecake after a mispacking incident left some pots containing an entirely different cheesecake -- one that includes hazelnuts. Since the outer packaging doesn't mention nuts anywhere, this is a serious concern for anyone who relies on labelling to keep them safe.
The recall applies to Gu Blonde Chocolate Cheesecake (2 x 82g) with a use-by date of 12 March 2026 and batch code 226044. These packs have been sold in England and Wales.
The problem is straightforward: some packs that should contain Blonde Chocolate Cheesecake were instead filled with a different Gu cheesecake variety that contains hazelnuts. The packaging on the outside still says Blonde Chocolate, so there's no visual clue that the contents are wrong until you open the pot and start eating -- which is obviously too late if you have a nut allergy.
If you have a nut allergy -- particularly to hazelnuts -- do not eat this product. Even if you've already had one pot from the twin pack without issues, the other could be the mispacked version.
Here's what to do:
If you don't have a nut allergy, the cheesecake is perfectly safe. You've just got a different flavour than you bargained for.
Mispacking recalls like this are a good reminder to always double-check what's actually in the pot, not just what's on the box. Gu clearly takes this seriously and has acted quickly, but if you're managing a nut allergy in the household, staying on top of the latest alerts from the Food Standards Agency is one of the best things you can do. A quick check today could prevent a trip to A&E tomorrow.
