Lidl Deluxe Red Cabbage With Apple and Cranberries Recalled Over Undeclared Milk

January 6, 2026
FSA-AA-01-2026

Nobody checks a jar of spiced red cabbage for dairy. That's the catch with this one. Lidl GB is recalling its Deluxe Red Cabbage with Apple, Dried Cranberries & Spices because the product contains milk that isn't properly highlighted on the label. If you've got a jar in the cupboard and someone in the house avoids dairy, check it before your next roast.

What's Affected

  • Product: Lidl Deluxe Red Cabbage with Apple, Dried Cranberries & Spices
  • Pack size: 480g
  • Batch codes: All batch codes
  • Use-by dates: All date codes

This covers every jar on the shelf, no matter the batch or date. If you've bought the 480g Deluxe Red Cabbage with Apple, Dried Cranberries & Spices from Lidl, it's included.

What You Should Do

If you have a milk allergy or intolerance:

  • Don't eat it. Milk allergy reactions can range from mild stomach upset to severe anaphylaxis, and because the milk isn't emphasised on the label, it's easy to miss when you're scanning the ingredients.
  • Return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.
  • Already eaten some? If you're experiencing symptoms such as stomach cramps, vomiting, hives, swelling, or any breathing difficulty, seek medical advice. For a severe reaction, use your adrenaline auto-injector if you carry one and call 999.
  • No milk allergy in the household? The product is safe to eat. The recall is purely about the milk not being properly declared on the label, nothing else.

Why a Side Dish Catches People Out

Pickled and spiced vegetables read as a safe bet for anyone avoiding dairy, so milk hiding in a red cabbage jar is the kind of thing that slips past even a careful shopper. The culprit is usually the spices and flavourings, which can carry milk-derived ingredients, and here the label didn't make that clear enough. Seasonal sides like this get bought in a hurry and tucked away for a big meal, which is when a missed allergen does the most damage. If you regularly pick up ready-made accompaniments, the FSA alerts page is the best place to keep track of what's been pulled.
