THIS Isn't Chicken Deli Pieces Recalled Over Undeclared Soya and Gluten

January 28, 2026
FSA-AA-11-2026

A pack of plant-based deli pieces is exactly the sort of thing a careful shopper trusts to be clearly labelled, which is what makes this recall a problem. THIS is pulling its Isn't Chicken Deli Pieces after it turned out the product contains soya and wheat (gluten) that don't appear on the packaging. If you have a soya allergy, a wheat or gluten intolerance, or coeliac disease, the missing labelling means you could eat this without ever knowing what's in it.

What's Affected

  • Product: THIS Isn't Chicken Deli Pieces
  • Pack size: 120g
  • Use-by dates: 29, 30 and 31 January 2026; 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 February 2026; 12 and 13 February 2026

That's a run of dates rather than every pack, so check the use-by printed on yours before you do anything. If the date falls within that list, it's part of the recall. If it's outside that range, your pack isn't covered.

What You Should Do

If you have a soya allergy, or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or coeliac disease:

  • Don't eat it. Soya can trigger reactions ranging from mild to severe, and for anyone with coeliac disease, hidden gluten can cause real gut damage even without an obvious immediate reaction. The whole point of buying a clearly labelled product is to avoid exactly this guesswork.
  • Return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.
  • Already eaten some? If you're getting symptoms, stomach cramps, bloating, vomiting, hives, swelling, or any trouble breathing, seek medical advice. For a severe allergic reaction, use your adrenaline auto-injector if you carry one and call 999.
  • No soya or gluten issues in the household? The product is safe to eat. This recall is only about the missing allergen information on the label, nothing else.

Why "Free From" Branding Raises the Stakes

Plant-based meat alternatives sit in a tricky spot. Shoppers often reach for them precisely because they're managing allergies or intolerances, so an undeclared allergen lands harder here than it might on a mainstream product. Plenty of people with coeliac disease or a soya allergy buy this category assuming the packaging tells them the full story. When the label leaves something out, the safety net these products are supposed to provide just isn't there. If you buy plant-based or free-from foods regularly, the FSA alerts page is the most reliable place to stay on top of recalls like this one.
