Waitrose Tuna Pâté Recalled Over Incorrect December Use-By Date

October 13, 2026
FSA-PRIN-49-2026

Waitrose has recalled Tuna Pâté in England after a labelling error gave it a December use-by date. The 13 October FSA notice says the correct date is 17 October 2026, two months earlier than the date printed on affected packs.

What’s Affected

  • Product: Waitrose Tuna Pate
  • Pack size: 115g
  • Incorrect printed use-by date: 17 December 2026
  • Correct use-by date: 17 October 2026
  • Area covered: England

The December date identifies the recalled packs. Use it together with the product name and size when checking your fridge.

What You Should Do

Do not eat the affected pâté. Return it to your local Waitrose store for a full refund. For further information, contact Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884.

Although the notice explains the correct October date, the FSA still asks customers to return affected packs rather than keep using them until then.

Why a Use-By Error Matters

The government’s food-date guidance explains that use-by dates concern safety, while best-before dates concern quality. This error could lead someone to keep the pâté for much longer than its intended safe-use period.

The FSA says the product is unsafe to eat after the correct October date. Its notice identifies a labelling error without naming a particular bacterium found in the pâté, so there is no basis to describe this as a confirmed listeria or Salmonella finding.

Check the Pack You Actually Bought

If you bought several tubs, read each label rather than assuming all have the same date. Keep a photograph or the original packaging if you need Waitrose to identify a purchase already opened or transferred to another container. Let anyone else in the household who might use the pâté know that the December date on a matching tub is incorrect.

Read the official FSA notice for further updates.
